Games aren't just fun, they can also be meaningful. They can be your way to say something important and engage your peers in issues that affect the planet.
The AMD Foundation is sponsoring a series of game design competitions within Gamestar Mechanic with great prizes for designing fun games around critical social issues.
Each Challenge will explore a different issue facing our world; issues like energy, food, pollution, and poverty. The goals of each Challenge are to make fun games that also explore these issues in unique and creative ways.

The Energy Challenge
The first AMD Impact Challenge is all about Energy.
Nearly everything we do requires energy: riding a bike, turning on a light, playing a game on this computer.
But the sources of energy are not unlimited and there is a cost and risk (think about the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico) to finding and using energy. With billions of people on the planet all consuming lots of energy every day, there is not always enough energy for everything we want or need.

Make a game that relates to the use or production of energy, recognizing that energy is an important and limited resource.
